Three Peaks Challenge
Helping to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Helpful hints
Much thought and planning went into the venture, which I feel went a long way to assuring our success. The results of which I hope will prove helpful to those participating in the the Three Peaks Challenge.
Avoid travelling a long distance prior to start and assure time to rest before start.
Fill the tank at Ben Nevis before you start.
Several minutes can be saved by starting Ben Nevis at Achintee House car park
Don't be fooled, it will be cold on Ben Nevis at any time of year.
Try to avoid spending too much time taking pictures and enjoying the snow on Ben Nevis.
Avoid walking at night. the extra care needed to navigate will add time and use more energy in what will prove a tiring exercise, especially if doing it unaided.
Eat mainly light meals, during the journey. There won't be time to stop around and make hot drinks or food.
Attend to only the very basic hygiene. You will have to make do for 24 hours.
Avoid travelling on time consuming narrow roads as much as possible. Much time will be lost if, as has been done by some, journeying via Wrynose and Hardnott passes to reach Scafell. Much better progress will be gained by using the faster route, from Carlisle via the A595 to Cockermouth, turning off towards Wasdale at Gosforth.
The Pyg Track is much the shorter route up Snowdon
Avoid weekends and July and August.
Carry and drink plenty of water and above all, take care and good luck
